Overview

The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification is the premier credential for technical professionals who analyze the business requirements and design and implement the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows platform and Microsoft server software.  Implementation responsibilities include installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems.  By earning the premier MCSE credential, individuals are demonstrating that they have the skills necessary to lead organizations in the successful design, implementation, and administration of the most advanced Microsoft Windows platform and Microsoft server products.

Who's It For?

The MCSE Certification is geared toward systems analysts, network analysts, technical support engineers, systems engineers, and technical consultants. The MCSE credential is designed for IT professionals working in the typically complex computing environment of medium to large organizations.

  • 200 to 26,000 supported users
  • 5 to 150 physical locations
  • Typical network services and applications including file and print, database, messaging, proxy server or firewall, dial-in server, desktop management, and Web hosting
  • Connectivity needs including connecting individual offices and users at remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet
  • In addition, an MCSE candidate should have at least one year of experience in implementing and administering a desktop operating system and designing a network infrastructure

Path To Certification

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) candidates on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 track are required to satisfy the following requirements:

Core exams (six exams required)

Candidates who passed Windows NT 4.0 Exams 70-067, 70-068, and 70-073 had the option to take the comprehensive Exam 70-240: Microsoft Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. By passing this exam, candidates met the MCSE exam requirement for 70-210. Exam 70-240 is no longer available.

3 Exams 70-297 and 70-298 may each count one time as either one core design exam or one elective exam but not both. Candidates may also take Exams 70-219, 70-220, 70-221, or 70-226 to satisfy the Core Design exam requirement.

4 Exams 70-089, 70-227, 70-228, 70-284, and 70-350 may each count toward both the MCSA and MCSE elective exam requirements.

5 CompTIA Security+ certification satisfies both the MCSE elective requirement and an MCSE: Security specialization requirement.
